The wolves are at the door.

It was a cold night and
these two giants huffed up the window
and impatiently waited for their owner to buy honey.
No one was coming in
and no one was coming out.

Trixee

I have taken many images of dogs waiting

They are always so patient and lovely

The other day I said to Lee, who has shopped with us right from the beginning,
" I need to get a picture of Trixee with her paws crossed
waiting at the door."
Trixee is a beautiful dog.
She doesn't have a lead instead
she lies waiting at the door, on the step
with her paws crossed over one another
and she smiles.
I love her.
She is gentle natured and very loved
I love patting her
I love talking to her
I just love her.

Lee rang to see if her bread was in
I knew something was up when I spoke to her on the phone
when she came in she said
"You wont be able to get that photo of Trixee I'm afraid"
Her voice so soft and slightly broken I could barely make out her words.
" Why Lee?"
" Because she died!"
and horribly it was true.
Trixee had died, at age 11
of a blood disorder
it happened so fast and was a terrible shock.

I hugged Lee across the counter
I held back my tears as I she told us the fate
of the family dog, the 4th member of the family, of Trixee.

I've heard it so many times
" Its crazy isn't it, it was just a dog"
but no, the lovely thing about pets
is the crossing of the animal/ human line
and when they are gone we grieve
and our emotions are equal
for 'All animals are equal'.

Lee sent me this image from her phone
and the message simply read,' My Baby girl.'

and today I write:

For Trixee . X

First day of Spring

I ride to work
whizzing down the hill
in the sunshine,
all aglow from an early morning yoga practice.
There are iridescent green leaves
and blossom buds on trees
that line a street I never noticed before
all is full of love...

I get to shop,
open the door, wide open,
serve a lovely woman
who has never been into the store before.
Give her a bag of apricots from Ben's farm
as a 'welcome to the store' kind of gesture
and as we are talking,
a dog
loose off the lead
running a little frantically about the street
does a giant poo
right in the middle
of the doormat.

The owner of the dog
is no where to be seen.
I stand out side the door of the store
arms crossed.
I push the doormat away from the door
with my foot.
I wait
and I wait.
Eventually I see the owner
in a cafe
I yell (Nicely)
"Hi, Is that your dog?"
He sunders over to me..
"yeah!"
" Well he did a poo on my doormat"
I look down at the giant pile of reconstituted tinned meat.
By now some people are giggling
as they pile into a 4 wheel drive.
"Yeah!" says owner
"yep" I say
"can you clean it up?" I ask.

So he walks over
to me
picks up the mat
walks to the middle of the road
and stops.
Looks about then
back at all of us on the footpath
and keeps walking to the other side of the road
he stands there for a bit
and turns the mat upside down
and drops the poo in the bin..
then walks back
and THROWS the mat at me!

I go inside
and do what any normal
person would do
I
light
an
incense..
